The five-line pick
You need clients and viewers to trust that a real creator stands behind your YouTube and TikTok work, without buying a newsroom camera stack.
Start free: Adobe Content Authenticity for Content Credentials, plus YouTube and TikTok's built-in AI and camera labels.
Need phone-capture proof that the file has not been altered since shoot? GreenCheckmark is the free C2PA camera path.
Want each asset bound to a verified human (including AI-assisted work you take responsibility for)? RealStamp Creator at $9/mo, or Free for 10 stamps a month.
Need managed C2PA signing plus on-chain registration at volume? Capture pay-as-you-go from $0.001 per sign, or Basic at $20/mo. Skip Sony, Canon, and Truepic-style stacks unless you are a newsroom.
Who each path is for
- Adobe Content Authenticity / Content Credentials (C2PA) suits creators who want free, durable attribution (name, social links, AI training preference) on stills and exports, plus a path platforms already understand. Skip it if you only need in-app disclosure toggles and never share downloadable files.
- YouTube AI labels + “Captured with a camera” suits anyone publishing on YouTube who must disclose photorealistic or meaningfully altered AI, or who can show unaltered camera capture via supported C2PA. Skip the camera label path if your edit/re-encode chain strips credentials.
- TikTok AIGC labels + C2PA suits TikTok creators who use realistic AI effects or generate AIGC and need the platform label (creator-applied or auto). Skip fretting over third-party badges if TikTok's own label already covers the disclosure job for that post.
- GreenCheckmark suits phone-first creators and freelancers who want C2PA-signed photos/video from the device, with public verify and optional creator attribution. Skip it if you only edit heavily after capture (crops, filters, and re-encodes break the signature).
- RealStamp suits freelancers who want each piece of content bound to a verified human (Face ID / Secure Enclave style flow), with AI-involvement metadata and public verify. Skip Business/Compliance Pilot if you are solo and Free or Creator covers your stamp volume.
- Capture (Numbers Protocol) suits creators or builders who want managed C2PA signing, storage, and on-chain registration, including light PAYG tests. Skip Advanced if Basic or PAYG is enough volume.
- Personhood tools (World ID, Persona, and similar) prove a human account or identity. That is a different job from content provenance. Use them only if your buyer asked for KYC or proof-of-personhood, not for “this video came from my camera.”

RealStamp and Capture dollar amounts above are from their official pricing pages. GreenCheckmark Free is confirmed on the vendor site; treat Pro as “confirm on official page / App Store” rather than a fixed list price here. Skip newsroom camera authenticity systems for this freelancer path unless that is literally your buyer.
How to choose in 20 seconds
- You only need disclosure on the platform → use YouTube and/or TikTok built-in labels first.
- You ship downloadable or shareable files and want durable attribution → Adobe Content Authenticity (free).
- You need “this was captured on a real phone camera and not altered since” → GreenCheckmark.
- You need “a verified human stands behind this asset” (including AI-assisted work you own) → RealStamp (Free to try, Creator if you outgrow 10/mo).
- You need API/managed signing, storage, and on-chain registration → Capture (PAYG to test, Basic if you stay light).
- Buyer is a newsroom or insurance inspection workflow → different stack; do not force the $0–$20 creator path.
Optional inspect helpers: verify.contentauthenticity.org for Content Credentials, and Google SynthID tools when you are checking Google AI media watermarks. They help you audit files; they are not a substitute for platform labels or capture signing.
What survives upload
Content Credentials and C2PA manifests travel with the file when the platform keeps them. Heavy edit, export, or re-encode can break a capture signature even when the story is still “real.” YouTube and TikTok can auto-label from their own signals and from C2PA; creator disclosure is still required when the policy says so. “Captured with a camera” style claims usually need unaltered (or properly credentialed) capture history, not a deep remix. When in doubt: label the AI parts honestly, keep human capture signed when you can, and spot-check a finished export in an inspect tool before you send it to a client.
